Studio Photography

Alongside my project for #untitled10 exhibition I have continued my other works and projects.

Callum Dawes blown glass 2019 Degree Show photograph

For nearly 10 years now I have worked with some artists, in particular glass and ceramic artists, in the studio to photograph their work.

It’s not always easy. In fact, the vast majority of the time it’s like a complex riddle. And, it’s a creative process. A juggling act between how the work looks, how the artist or maker perceives the piece, and how I see it.

It’s my job to attempt to bring out the very best in the object being photographed. The more I do the work, the better I understand how the light works with various materials.

I photographed the degree show, Sacha Delabre @sachadelabre on instagram, Jim Maskery’s work, and Phil Vickery Glass. I have other sessions booked for studio photography, a couple of location shoots, and my continuing photography club. Just so you all know that I’m not just a one trick pony!

I’m currently working another large scale commission pitch. I’ve researched, planned and created test pieces for the last month or so. Nearly ready to pull it altogether and send it in.

If you want to book studio time send me an email or give me a ring. All deets on my contact page.

Surfboard commission for the Beam at Vaux

I was commissioned to design a surfboard inspired by Sunderland and our wonderful coastline. I opted for using one of my favourite polaroid emulsion lift artworks. The final surfboard, alongside 10 other artists will remain on permanent display in the atrium.
